Year 9 Mural Designs
In this unit pupils will develop an individual mural design for a subject area or department in the school and autonomous outcome to a specified design brief. Pupils will begin by learning about murals and graffiti art, their function purpose and aesthetics. They will be given the design brief along with specific requirements for the design these are for the design to include an appropriate letter style and images, have good composition, show an influence of artists studied (graffiti art or Keith Haring), accurately drawn, it says welcome to the department, a colour scheme and that it appeals to the target market. Students are encouraged to develop a unique outcome to a similar brief as the project is directed as a competition where the winning design will be enlarged and used as the department mural. This places an emphasis on independant research skills into finding and selecting appropriate images and lettering styles as well as colours and effects. Pupils will also be introduced to working to a deadline and for a target market.

Surreal Photography Project
For this project students began by learning about SURREALISM with a particular focus on the surreal photographs of the artist Eric Johansson. This work provided students with a source of inspiration, with many wierd and wonderful ideas being produced! Students were given a quick crash course in the fundamentals of photography and then attempted to use scale to create giants and little people!!! Basic skills and techniques in Paint Shop Pro were then taught to enable pupils to create their wierd and wacky ideas for a surreal work of art!
