YEAR 7 SCHEMES OF WORK
PROJECT 1 - LETTERING DESIGN - Painting (Powder Paints)
Introductory lessons, colour theory, folder design using lettering, colour, line, pattern and composition. Pupils will produce a painting in the style of NDEBELE art. They will use their basic knowledge of colour theory and be taught to mix paints from powder. There will be a strong focus on building painting skills in particular painting neatly and accurately with thick consistencies of paint. They will incorporate symmetrical pattern, shapes and lines into the design cross curricular links to Maths
PROJECT 2 - TOWNSCAPES - Painting (powder paints)/ textiles/ sketch trip
Pupils will develop their painting skills and knowledge of colour theory further by being taught about tints, tones and shades. They will use this to create a landscape painting that uses colour, scale and line to show depth. The work of T.S. LOWRY will be studied to inspire pupils and further their understanding of tonal perspective. The initial designs and a sketching trip will be the inspiration for a final piece made in textiles
PROJECT 3 - CORRIDOR - Mixed media / Painting (watercolour)/ oil pastels / clay
Pupils will further develop their understanding of depth/distance by creating a one point perspective corridor in the style of VINCENT VAN GOGH. They will study how artists use colour, mark making and subject matter to create a picture that shows and influence of EXPRESSIONISM. Their painting skills will be further developed by using watercolour paints with oil pastels. Finally pupils will create a clay tile that uses relief, pattern and texture to show depth and distance so completing a breadth of knowledge.
PROJECT 4 - RELIEF TILES – Ceramics (Clay Tiles)
Pupils will develop their knowledge of the concepts of scale perspective, tonal perspective, depth and distance, from the previous two projects and create a clay tile that uses relief, pattern and texture. Most pupils will again use VINCENT VAN GOGH but those gifted and talented students can extend their work using a work of art of their choice. The tiles will demonstrate technical clay skills.
PROJECT 5 - PORTRAITS – ICT / Mixed Media / Collage
Pupils will complete their first freehand self-portrait and then improve their accuracy by using either the proportion or frame technique. Pupils will have the opportunity to explore the use of ICT to create their self-portraits in the style of the artists JULIAN OPIE and ANDY WARHOL. This will also be completed manually in the classroom using print outs, collage and tracing paper.
PROJECCT 6 - FUNNY FACES – Printing (collograph and polystyrene)/ 3D Sculpture
Pupils will create a collage of portraits that will form the inspiration for a line design in the style of the line drawings of HENRI MATISSE and PABLO PICASSO. This Line design will be used to introduce pupils to the printing techniques including a positive sting print and a negative polystyrene print. A variety of coloured inks and papers will be used with the printing plates before turning them into a collage. Pupils will also have the opportunity of creating their portrait in 3D using wire, these will be presented together.
