Artist in Residence - Teacher Portrait Project
Once again the artist Jenni Cator, spent two days working with gifted and talented year 9 student. More teachers were selected to complete portraits of and the work produced was stunning! See the work as it progresses below!
Guys and Dolls Backdrop!
Once again a dedicated team of students worked tirelessly on the backdrop for the school production of ‘Guys and Dolls’. During one of the clubs we actually counted up the time that has been spent producing it and totalled over 30 hours and we weren’t even finished! It was well worth all the effort however as the backdrop was our best yet and made a big difference to the production.
Whilst most of the time it has been hard work it has also been a lot of fun, especially the interesting quick way in which the students found to white out the old design…what can only be described as Paint Skating! This year we also made a number of props and parts of the set including an internal set of the Mission and the 57th Street news stand. There is a long list of students to say well done and thank you to, however special mentions have to go to Ben Goldingand Olivia Hutsonwho contributed the most time and did the difficult part of drawing the design and Lucy Ballam who was a general all round motivator and co-ordinator and wore very interesting oversized overalls that made us all giggle!
A big thank you and well done to all of the following students who contributed!
Olivia Hutson, Sam Davis, Ben Golding, Rachel Ewing, Lucy Ballam, Siobhan Goody, Jade Dunne Marshall, Gee Blanchard, Craig Bullbek, Luke Haskell, Aaron Torrey, Micheal Brown and Daniel Foster.

Backdrop for the Christmas Panto 2009 'Cinderella and the 12 Dwarves'
We have recently completed the new backdrop for the Christmas Panto. Again students used both after school Art club on a Tuesday as well as one day off timetable to complete the design. This year it was designed by Hannah Brown (Year 9) and a number of students took part in painting it. Thank you to Hannah Brown, Rhiannon Carroll, Tom Balchin, Zoe Bonner, Charlie Milton, Ruth Ewing, Ben McDonnell, Shannon Jones, Olivia Stewart, Jack Marshall, Chloe Burt and Sophie Clarke.
Back drop for the play 'Once Upon a What???' Summer 2009
Students dedicated their own time after school, in art club on a Tuesday, to designing and making a massive backdrop for the school play. They were also treated to a whole day off timetable to complete it (due to the sheer scale of the work meaning that it was VERY time consuming!) which all the students enjoyed very much. The backdrop was hung ready for the first performance and as such played a very important part of the success of the play! Well done to all those involved!
Artist in Residence Project
Gifted and Talented Year 9 students were selected to work with a portrait artist called Jenni Cator. As Jenni's specialism is portraits, the focus for the project was to draw a portrait of a teacher in school! After being introduced to Jenni's working methods, the selected students went to see their chosen teacher, interviewed them and took photos! These were then used in the classroom , where the students were off timetable for two whole days, to design and produce portrait that would best represent the teachers personality and looks! The students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and Jenni, the artist, complimented them on their conduct, imagination and skill! The portraits are in the process of being completed and there will be an exhibition of the completed work in the near future! The completed portraits will appear on the exhibition page so look out for them!
