Key Stage 3 Curriculum
The schemes of work in KS3 are designed to progressively develop pupils skills and abilities across years 7,8 and 9. In each year group their are projects that provide every pupil with the opportunity to complete painting, printing, 3D sculpture, ceramics, mixed media, collage, ICt and textiles. As pupils move through the years the techniques become progressively more difficult and specialised. For example, the year 7 printing project covers basic single colour collographs, year 8 multi colour reduction lino prints and in year 9 screen printing.
year 7 focuses on foundation skills, ensuring that all students have a basic level of ability and understanding of concepts. Year 8 builds upon and uses this knowledge and understanding and so once pupils reach year 9 they will not only have highly developed technical ability but can then use this to be creative, adventurous and imaginative! Therefore enabling pupil confidence as well as independance and autonomy by the time they reach KS4.
It also provides an opporunity to experience a range of media as well as frequently change projects - for example, if as a student you don't like painting you know it is only going to be a 6 week project at the most before it changes to a media you prefer!!!!

Key Stage 4 Curriculum
In key stage 4 the schemes of work are designed to empower pupils with the knowledge and understanding of how to fully meet the assessment criteria of the selected examining board so that they can achieve the highest grade possible. For the exam they are given questions that are either a THEME or a TASK, therefore one of the coursework units is taught as a THEME and the other a TASK. Thus giving pupils the expeirence of both and so the enable them to know how to answer both types of question. At the beginning of year 10 pupils are guided through techniques and skills in a structured way, as the year progresses the pupils develop confidence and so are given more and more autonomy with their work ao that should they choose it at A-level, they are fully prepared and independant. The coursework projects are structured but they are designed to allow pupils the freedom to develop their own individual style, explore their own areas of interest and develop a visual form of self expression.
